Very
little was known about this man. We encountered him and
his Oriental hanger-ons in a diner in Savannah. No-one spoke, and "John Smith"
handed me a note. After I had read the note, one of the Asians
looked at a child who was enjoying an ice cream with its parent, and
opened his jacket to reveal a hatchet. The threat was clear.
The Orientals were all showing Thai tattoos (Marcus recognized them as such).
If Smith had any of these tattoos, they must have been hidden underneath
the jacket he wore.
